Ryan Gosling Bladerunner 2049

Geeking out on Bladerunner 2049 - or at least it's trailer. Ryan Gosling caricature from the teaser.

Mila Kuni caricature

Mila Kunis caricature for the Facebook challenge @ Caricaturama Showdown. I prefer this one to the one I did a few weeks ago.

Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood) - Westworld

Obviously I've been geeking out on Westworld. Wouldn't be right not to draw Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood), so here she is.

Clementine profile caricature

I don't often draw caricatures in profile but the character Clementine was too irresistible not to have a crack at it. More of a sketch than anything else - and far less caricature than the previous one.

Bernard (Jeffrey Wright) Westworld

Jeffrey Wright as Bernard in Westworld.

Clearly I've been enjoying the show. I'll tell you what else is cool - the soundtrack. Was listening to it while drawing this one up.

Maila "Vampira" Nurmi caricature

Maila Nurmi aka Vampira.

Of course this isn't how she looked when she played Vampira but I came across this photo of her that looked very cool and was compelled to draw it. I also found out she apparently had a 17 inch waist when she was playing the character. That's ridiculous.

I was going around the house trying to figure out how tiny that is. It's much thinner than my head, it's even thinner than my cereal bowl. Apparently she didn't eat for two days before the show and used to go to Turkish baths to keep the weight down. Obviously it was very important to her but the article  didn't explain why.

Krysten Ritter caricature

Krysten Ritter, AKA Jane Margolis from Breaking Bad. She's in lots of other things too but that's how I know her best.

Jay Z caricature

Jay Z caricature.

I started with this fairly sketchy working up of Jay Z, came back later and fleshed it out more but all it really did was tighten it up or "laying on the concrete" as I like to call it - where the rough is nice, fresh and intuitive but the more work you do on it the deader it becomes.

Here, I'll show you what i mean .. Here's where I took it to later ..

There is of course the chance that if you keep on at it you'll come out the other side and it will eventually get better but when I looked at where I'd taken it to compared to where it'd already been I decided to keep the fresher, earlier version.

Also, for some reason I have a thing with drawing black people with blue/purple skin. I have no idea what that's all about. More than likely, I've seen someone do it really well and it's stuck.

Yolandi Visser caricature

At first I had her with normal eyes then thought I'd change it up and use the alien eye contacts she often wears. Or are they demon eyes? I'm not sure. Either way, they're more interesting than the first eyes I had.

Mila Kunis caricature

Mila Kunis. Her name sounds like someone saying something dirty in a foreign language.

William Fichtner caricature

I always like seeing this guy in flicks. The only time i didn't was in The Dark Knight. He's the guy at the bank who goes for a shotgun. When he came on screen I was like, "Cool, I like this guy", but by the end of the scene you realize he's not going to be in the rest of the movie. Bummer.

Travis Fimmel - Vikings

Travis Fimmel caricature for the facebook challenge Caricaturama Showdown.

I'm not that happy with it to tell you the truth. It's a bit stiff and labored. Some of the colours I don't mind - and it's a reasonable get but I really want to loosen up. I'm enjoying the painterly approach but at this stage of the game it's tightened me right up. Gonna stick with it tho and I'm hoping, as I get more comfortable with the approach, a bit more life will kick in.

Mads Mikkelsen caricature

Mads Mikkelsen caricature. He's a great face. I haven't seen any of Hannibal but I've always liked this guy whenever I've seen him in a flick. No doubt he's great in Hannibal.

Anne Bancroft caricature

Anne Bancroft caricature just for the hell of it. Stumbled across a good photo of her online and thought she'd be good to draw.

Friend's Dad

Recently I drew a friend's sister for her birthday. Their dad was in one of the reference photos and he had such a great face I couldn't help but draw him as well.

Toby Jones caricature

Toby Jones caricature for the Facebook page Caricaturama Showdown 3000.

Recently I found a new Photoshop brush and quite like it, fun to use. It's a bit like using squeakers or a combination of squeakers and paint. I think it's a Chris Wahl brush but I'm not sure because I've downloaded quite a few.

Started to refine the drawing but decided to keep it raw. Looking at it now I can see lots of areas that could be  improved - but I like the sketchy feel.

Claude Debussy caricature

Claude Debussy caricature.

Why am I drawing Claude Debussy? Well it was (or wld've been) his birthday today.

I'm going to try and do this thing where I draw a caricature of someone who's birthday it is each day. Maybe not on weekends and who knows how I'll go. I figure my caricatures could use a push and this is a good way of getting a nice range of personalities without having to think about it too much.

So happy 154th birthday Claude.

Terry Gilliamesque

Something I did for a client recently. I like the Gilliamesque feel to it (early Gilliam, clearly an influence). As a mate of mine said, all it needs is a giant foot to come down and squash them all at the end of it.
