Judith Gopnick

What I like about Judith from A Serious Man is how unaware she seems to be that she's just shattered her husband Larry's world, to the point where she gets annoyed and impatient with him. She may not be the most likeable character but she's certainly entertaining (well not for Larry). There's a temptation to draw her much 'cleaner' since she's always quite together and well kempt but I think the roughness echoes the chaos she's bringing to Larry's life (also I'm trying to keep my drawings as loose and lively as I can, so there's also that...).

Shot Man

This guy only turns up for a moment and then gets shot. He's showing Anton Chigurh the crime scene and of course is shot because he saw his face.

Anne Nirdlinger

Anne Nirdlinger is the wife of Big Dave in The Man Who Wasn't There. Someone told me the way to watch TMWWT is to think of Ed Crane as an alien who's visiting and observing humanity. It explains why he's so aloof and unbothered by some of the crappy things that happen to him. It also explains why the alien ship turns up sporadically during the film.

Anne is the only one that mentions them though. Anyway regardless of all that, I just like her spooky and kind of gothic appearance.

Dissaproving Painting

I'm pretty sure this will be the most obscure caricature of this entire thing. It's from a painting that only appears for a second, if that, in The Man Who Wasn't There. It's above the bed at the hotel Freddy Riedenschneiner's staying at. Cool face though.

Circus Guy That Doesn't Stand Up

This guy is also at the circus at the end of the film True Grit, except he doesn't stand up when Mattie Ross comes over to talk to them - and she gives him a go about it.

The Coach

The Coach from The Ladykillers. You only see him twice and he only has a few lines, one of which is, "You couldn't catch a cold!', pretty much what he's saying in this illo.

Anton Chigurh

Good friend of mine, and incredibly talented artist,  Harvey Chan was telling me about a project he'd love to do, which is to draw every Coen Brother character. As he was talking I stopped him and said he shouldn't be telling me this - because I'd steal it! To which he replied, "Well why don't we collaborate?" which I think is a great idea. Of course he's incredibly busy so I don't know if he'll be able to. Mind you he also works fast and is very prolific so hopefully he can. Anyway since he doesn't mind, I figured I'd start. It's such a great idea.

Here's the first one: Javier Bardem as Anton Chigurh from No Country For Old Men
